Cultural directory · Oviedo
17 museums, galleries and art centers, a map in five sectors and three routes between cathedral, contemporary creation and Mount Naranco.
An artistic capital on a human scale
From the treasures of the Asturian kingdom to current art
Oviedo concentrates in a very readable perimeter a history of images twelve centuries long. Around the cathedral, goldsmithing, altarpieces and public collections interact with private galleries. Further south and east, schools, public halls and independent projects show a current scene attentive to painting, photography, publishing and installation. On the Naranco, pre-Romanesque architecture and sculpture place art in the landscape.
Each address has been controlled from an official source or current professional presence. To extend the visit with an acquisition, consult the original paintings currently available at Alpha Reproduction: advice before acquisition, packaging adapted to the work and international delivery monitored.
1. Start with the collections
The Museum of Fine Arts, the Archaeological Museum and the Cathedral Treasure provide essential landmarks before exploring private places.
2. Reading art in architecture
In Santullano then on the Naranco, wall paintings, reliefs and volumes from the 9th century can be discovered in their historical and landscape context.
3. Buy unambiguously
The "Works for sale" mark appears only on the five galleries where catalog, boutique, advice or sales activity are verifiable.
