From Velázquez to Matisse, representing the workshop is like showing what usually remains hidden: the tests, the tools, the expectation of the model, the visitors and the slow construction of an image. Each space reveals a method as much as a personality.
These hundred paintings also tell the social evolution of the artist. Princely workshop, modest room, boat, garden or vast modern studio: the place of creation gradually becomes an autonomous subject, capable of summarizing an entire life devoted to art.
