Paris brought him the clear palette of Manet and Degas, the Bois de Boulogne and the belle Époque entertainment; London offers him lively parks and streets. In 1921 -1922, a stay in Java and Bali filled his notebooks with dancers, musicians and urban scenes. His view, shaped by a colonial context, must be read with this story, but he retains in painting a direct attention to color, gesture and movement. Israels died in The Hague in 1934.
