Paul Klee was born in Münchenbuchsee, near Bern, in 1879 and died in Muralto in 1940. An excellent violinist, he hesitated for a long time between music and painting before studying in Munich. His meeting with Wassily Kandinsky and the Blaue Reiter group in 1911 -1912 opened his art to cubism, abstraction and the research of Robert Delaunay. The trip to Tunisia in 1914 constituted a decisive revelation of color. Klee taught at the Bauhaus from 1921 to 1931, first in Weimar then in Dessau, and developed a theory where line, rhythm, growth and color were living processes. Ad Parnass Angelus Novus reduces the angel to a few graphic signs of which Walter Benjamin will make a famous image of history. Magic of fish superimposes creatures, plants and symbols in a bright night, while Red Balloon balances architecture and a colorful circle with an almost childish economy. Driven from the Düsseldorf Academy by the Nazi regime in 1933, Klee returns to Bern. Despite illness, he continued until his death with an immense work of around ten thousand pieces.
