Séraphine Louis, known as Séraphine de Senlis, was born in Arsy in Oise in 1864 and died in Clermont in 1942. Orphaned at a very young age, she worked as a shepherdess then a servant, notably with the nuns and in families of Senlis. She painted outside of any academic training, in the evening, with modest means and personal mixtures of paint.
