The Offering to Venus, painted in 1518 for the camerino of Alphonse d'Este, populates a garden with a multitude of loves inspired by Philostratus: Antiquity becomes a sensual and fertile celebration. In 1554, Venus and Adonis are sent to Prince Philip in the cycle of "poems". The goddess, shown from behind, holds back the hunter who is heading towards death; Titian demonstrates that painting can compete with sculpture by offering several points of view of the body. Versions of Venus with an organist or lute player move the myth to a contemporary villa.
