In version 5106, the arch can be seen in the middle of a red, yellow, blue-gray and sea green material applied with almost brutal energy. The flowers seem to fall in long verticals while the pool opens in light bands under the bridge.

The ark almost disappears behind a flowering of vertical gestures

The curve of the bridge crosses the center in dark red, purple and green. It is fragmented by yellow and white stems which descend from the upper part. On the left, a lighter area lets the composition breathe; on the right, the reds and blues form a much denser mass.

In the pool, Monet places horizontal cream, blue gray and green bands, then covers them with touches of red, yellow and turquoise. The material does not imitate smooth water: it retains the repetitions, hesitations and contradictory directions which make this painting almost abstract.

The motif remains a bridge over a pool, but the real scene is now the vision itself: overflowing colors, intersecting gestures, and light dissolving objects.

The reds and purples of the bridge should not be combined into a regular line. The curve appears, disappears under the flowers, then returns to the right half.

Yellow, white and blue descend from the top like stems or clusters. Their rhythm must remain irregular to preserve the energy of the late touch.

A basin built in opposite layers

The long, light bands are covered in shorter, warmer gestures. The relief of these overlays matters as much as the final color.
