A strongly plunging perspective
The horizon disappears entirely. The viewer looks almost vertically towards the fishermen, which reduces the topographical depth and accentuates the graphic arrangement of the boats.

Artwork description
Claude Monet · Poissy · 1882 · W748
Five fishermen occupy small boats scattered on an olive green Seine, seen from a high point. The boats form a diagonal chain from the left edge to the right group, while their dark reflections and the lines of the rods fragment the calm surface. Signed Claude Monet /Poissy 1882, this oil on canvas measuring 59.8 × 81.7 cm is kept at the Belvédère de Vienne under number 1288 and corresponds to Wildenstein 748.

Look at the work
Two men are in the boat in the foreground, a third appears cut by the lower edge. On the left, two dark boats overlap; on the right, two figures occupy another boat. An empty hull, pink and brown, floats higher in the center.
The bank is almost absent: only a green band appears in the lower right corner. The water fills the rest of the frame, with khaki, brown, green and silver gray passages. The reflections of the boats stretch into dark shapes, while the canes and moorings draw thin diagonals.
The view transforms the Seine into a pictorial surface: the boats, the fishermen and their reflections become a set of shapes distributed in the water rather than a scene told from the bank.
Composition, touch and light
Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.
The horizon disappears entirely. The viewer looks almost vertically towards the fishermen, which reduces the topographical depth and accentuates the graphic arrangement of the boats.
The dark boat on the left leads towards the central boat, then towards the empty hull and the group on the right. This movement prevents isolated figures from dispersing without connection.
Under each boat, greens and blues extend in irregular masses. These floating shadows give weight to small boats and make the water surface noticeable.
Reference image
A single exact image of W748 is used throughout the file and as the sole media for the product. The real WebP measures 3,000 × 2,184 px, kept at the maximum limit retained without artificial enlargement.
This partially visible figure reinforces the sensation of a view taken from life from Villa Saint-Louis. Removing it would make the bottom of the composition too empty.
The Seine is not a uniform green tablecloth. The clear, brown and bluish passages create reflections of the sky and troubled areas around the boats.
These lines discreetly connect fishermen and enliven open spaces. They must remain flexible and almost intermittent, without becoming a rigid network.
Documented benchmarks
The Belvédère preserves Fishermen on the Seine in Poissy, oil on canvas from 1882, 59.8 × 81.7 cm, inventory 1288 and catalog Wildenstein 748.
Monet lived in Poissy from December 1881 to April 1883. The very high viewpoint corresponds to the family home which dominated the river and allowed direct observation of nautical activities.
W748 has a composition developed with several boats and figures. A second painting, W749, shows a smaller group and belongs to a private collection.
The inscription explicitly places the pattern and its date. The Belvedere keeps the painting under number 1288 in its modern art collection.
