Rural landscape with trees, after Claude Monet - 1882hand painted reproduction

A dark path crosses a wood and opens onto a village dominated by a hill, under a sky heavy with clouds. This oil on canvas measuring 57 × 68 cm, dated 1882 and kept at the National Museum in Warsaw under the number M.Ob.2070 MNW, has long been attributed to Claude Monet; the museum catalog classifies it today as a fake.

Look at the work

A landscape of naturalistic tradition organized around a central gap

The trees form two lateral masses which frame the path and the village. The clear slope of the foreground leads towards the red roofs, then towards the silhouette of a tower at the top of the hill.

Brown, olive green and bluish black dominate the ground and foliage. Light walls, red roofs and gray skies create the main contrasts in diffused light.

The composition reads like a passage: from the shadow of the path towards the village, then from the dark earth towards the hill cut out under the sky.

Composition, touch and light

What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot

Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.

01

A very constructed plant frame

The large trees on the right and the lower group on the left form an asymmetrical arch. Their density focuses the gaze on the central gap.

02

A depth in three thresholds

The path, the village and the hill follow one another clearly. This graduated organization is more descriptive than Monet's freest Norman landscapes in 1882.

03

An attribution now ruled out

Metadata from the National Museum in Warsaw describes the object as fake. The file therefore sells the reproduction of this precise composition, without presenting it as an authenticated work by Monet.

Reference image

Read this specific version

A single image of the M.Ob.2070 MNW object is used. The real WebP measures 3,000 × 2,603 px and comes from the institutional file, reduced without artificial enlargement.

Composition01

Preserve the dark masses

The contrast between the undergrowth and the village is essential. Evenly brightening the image would remove the effect of passage to light.

Color02

Keep the small tower at the top

It constitutes the most distant point and gives its orientation to the path. It must remain discreet but readable.

Matter03

Maintain earthy tones

Browns, muted greens and grays define this composition. Excessive saturation would move it away from the museum reference file.

Documented benchmarks

Three pieces of information specific to this work

The National Museum in Warsaw preserves Rural Landscape with Trees, oil on canvas from 1882, 57 × 68 cm, inventory M.Ob.2070 MNW, today cataloged as a forgery formerly attributed to Claude Monet.

Status01

A composition after Monet, not an authenticated canvas

The museum's wording clearly distinguishes the subject matter of the autograph work. This precision avoids transforming a historical attribution into commercial certainty.

Collection02

National Museum Warsaw

The painting is registered there under the number M.Ob.2070 MNW and benefits from very high definition institutional photography.

Subject03

Path, village and wooded hill

The scene relies on a central perspective and covered light, with red accents on the roofs and a tiny tower on the horizon.

Your reproduction

What the painter must preserve

Fidelity here depends on precise relationships between light, touch, depth and color temperature.

  • The object M.Ob.2070 MNW
  • The mention after Claude Monet
  • The path framed by trees
  • The village and the tower at the bottom
