Two red water lilies shine in an almost nocturnal pool. Around them, the oval leaves, stems and reflections of the willow blend into deep blues, greens and purples. Monet removes the shore and direct sky; the light is born from the colorful touches placed on the water, while the vertical shapes of the reflection give the composition its moving depth.

Two red flowers emerge from blue-green water where the leaves and the reflection of the willow become inseparable

The first red water lily is located slightly below the center, the second lower and to the right. Their shift creates a luminous diagonal. Around them, the leaves assemble in irregular groups, some almost circular, others dissolved by reflections.

The left part concentrates blue and purple verticals which evoke willow. They cross the horizontal layers of the water and are interrupted by water lilies. At the top, turquoise passages slightly open the dark mass.

Flowers don't just decorate the pond: their concentrated reds measure the full depth of the blues and greens that surround them.
