The meadow becomes a moving surface where grass reflects the sky
The field occupies almost two thirds of the canvas. The trees at the bottom form a discontinuous frieze; their modest size leaves the feeling of a vast open space.
Emerald green, light blue, mauve, yellow and pink are distributed in small superimposed touches. The cold areas of the meadow sometimes seem to be flowers, sometimes reflections of light.
The landscape seems simple, but its depth is due to a very precise orchestration: wide touches in front, vibrant trees in the middle and almost weightless sky.

In the catalog raisonné, W1199 comes immediately after the Limetz Prairie. The mist gives way to clearer light and more saturated colors.

They create grass movement and connect the meadow to the sky. A uniform green cast would make the scene flat.
