Art galleries in Bradford: directory, map and art districts
30 galleries, museums, workshops and art centers, including 6 addresses offering works for sale
From central Bradford to Saltaire, Ilkley and Keighley, then to Leeds, Halifax, Wakefield, Skipton and Harrogate: a verified directory for exploring Yorkshire's art scenes.
Textiles, photography and creation
From spinning mills to galleries
Bradford is about more than just one gallery street: its artistic landscape connects Cartwright Hall and the city center to Saltaire spinning mills, district workshops and neighboring Yorkshire towns.
Photography occupies a stronghold thanks to Impressions and the National Science and Media Museum, while David Hockney gives Salts Mill an international reputation. The artist-led spaces of Thornton, Keighley, Halifax and Leeds complete this institutional base.
Leeds, Wakefield, Skipton and Harrogate then expand the tour. All addresses and official pages were checked in July 2026; However, check the calendar the same day, especially for temporary locations and workshops.
Three benchmarks
Read the directory carefully
The same word "gallery" here covers very different realities. These three keys avoid bad expectations and make visits smoother.
Museum or shopping mall?
A museum maintains a collection and organizes exhibitions; the visit does not involve the sale of works. A shopping mall represents artists, advises collectors and offers pieces for purchase. Yellow badges only indicate the places where this sale was verified.
What does artist-led mean?
An artist-led place is developed by artists or collectives. It favors experimentation, production, residencies and conversation rather than permanent stock. Openings often follow exhibitions: check the calendar, especially outside openings.
Group visits
The center of Bradford is covered on foot, but Cartwright Hall requires a short journey. Saltaire and Bingley form a second loop; Ilkley, Keighley and Haworth combine by train and bus, while Leeds or Wakefield deserve a dedicated day.

Frequently asked questions
Prepare your visit
Some practical answers for choosing the right steps and avoiding closed doors.
What is Bradford's main arts district?
The center brings together Impressions Gallery, Bradford Arts Centre, Loading Bay and the National Science and Media Museum. Cartwright Hall is further north in Lister Park. Saltaire constitutes the second major center thanks to Salts Mill, to which we can add The Peace Museum.
Which galleries sell works?
Six venues carry the yellow "Works for Sale" badge: The Bingley Gallery, Tinker Gallery, Harrison Lord Gallery, West Yorkshire Print Workshop, Craven Arts House and RedHouse Originals. The badge only appears when the sale of works has been confirmed.
Are the big galleries free?
Cartwright Hall, Leeds Art Gallery, Henry Moore Institute, Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, Mercer Art Gallery and several independent spaces offer free general access. The Hepworth Wakefield, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Brontë Parsonage Museum require a ticket.
Can you visit everything without a car?
Bradford, Saltaire, Bingley, Ilkley, Keighley, Haworth, Leeds, Halifax and Wakefield are connected by train or bus. Yorkshire Sculpture Park is easier by car, although a bus connection exists from Wakefield and Barnsley.
Why check same day schedules?
Artist-led spaces, studios and university galleries often open depending on the exhibitions. Some workshops only receive during events or by appointment. A quick check of the official calendar avoids a closed door.
How to buy an original painting after the trip?
You can contact the galleries bearing the yellow badge directly or consult our collection of original paintings for sale. We offer pre-purchase advice and organize international delivery.
