Understanding the Le Havre scene

A city born from the port, rebuilt by architecture and revealed by light

Le Havre has a unique artistic history. Eugène Boudin observes the changing skies there, Claude Monet paints there Print, rising sun, then the Circle of Modern Art brought together Dufy, Friesz, Braque and their allies. After 1944, Auguste Perret rebuilt the center according to a framework of concrete, proportions and light today classified by UNESCO. The current galleries extend this relationship to the landscape, while Un Été Au Havre installs the creation directly in the streets, on the quays and facing the sea.

01

Start with the light

At MuMa and on the seafront, compare the painted landscapes with the real sky, the reflections of the basin and the port horizon.

02

Read Reconstruction

The Perret model apartment, the Niemeyer library and the Galerie S7 show how architecture, furniture and decorative arts respond to each other.

03

Get out of the frame

The lasting works of Un Été Au Havre transform the entire city into a journey: monumental sculpture, visitable installation and landscape art.
