Great Nordic painting route
100 worksnorwegian painting
From the romantic fjords of Dahl to the visionary nights of Sohlberg, from the social realism of Krohg to the intensity of Munch: a hundred oils to travel through a century of inventions.
Painting a territory, inventing a look
Norwegian painting of the 19th and early 20th centuries is neither the fjord nor Edvard Munch. It is formed between Copenhagen, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Munich, Paris and Christiania, then transforms this learning into a language deeply attached to the place.
The romantic landscape first gives the country a monumental image. Realism then observes work, interiors, the street and social tensions. Around 1900, color intensified, contours became simpler and nature becomes the support for more inner experiences, up to the visions of Sohlberg, Astrup, Munch and Keyser.
