Paul Signac was born in Paris in 1863 and died there in 1935. He abandoned architectural studies for painting and met Georges Seurat at the Salon of Independent Artists of 1884. With Seurat and Odilon Redon, he participated in the founding of the Society of independent artists, whom he chaired for the long term. The two painters developed a method based on the division of tones: distinct touches of pure color combined in the eye of the viewer and produced a vibrant light.
