Wassily Kandinsky was born in Moscow in 1866 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1944. After legal training, he chose painting and moved to Munich in 1896. At the turn of the 1910s, he gradually moved away from the visible motif to seek an expression based on color, line and what he calls inner necessity. His Improvisations and his first Compositions no longer describe a precise place: they organize tensions, impulses, masses and rhythms like music without words. With Franz Marc, he participated in the Blaue Reiter adventure in 1911. After the Russian Revolution, he returned to Germany and taught at the Bauhaus from 1922 to 1933.
