Domenikos Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco, was born in Crete in 1541 and died in Toledo in 1614. In the last decades of his Spanish career, he painted several apostolados: series bringing together Christ the Savior and the twelve apostles, generally represented at half- body. The Museo del Greco preserves one of the founding ensembles of its collection, while other complete or fragmentary series are known in Toledo and elsewhere.
