Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was born in Fuendetodos in 1746 and grew up in Zaragoza. Trained with José Luzân, he continued his apprenticeship in Madrid with the Bayeu brothers then traveled to Italy at his own expense around 1769 -1771.
