Skyscrapers, train stations, crowds and bright gardens make Colin Campbell Cooper the impressionist painter of modern architecture and travel.

Born in Philadelphia in 1856, Colin Campbell Cooper chose painting after discovering the Universal Exhibition of 1876. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Thomas Eakins, then continued his training in Paris at the Académie Julian and at the École Delécluse. Long trips to Europe nourished his architectural views, but a fire destroyed a large part of his first works in 1896. Installed in New York at the beginning of the 20th century with his wife, the painter Emma Lampert Cooper, he found a large part of his first works in skyscrapers, train stations, squares and crowds.
