Francesco Granacci was born in Florence in 1469 or 1470 and died in 1543. He trained in the studio of Domenico Ghirlandaio at the same time as Michelangelo, with whom he maintained a long friendship. This apprenticeship gave him a taste for readable stories, well-distributed groups and architecture capable of ordering several episodes. Granacci then went through the transition between the Quattrocento and the High Renaissance. He knew the inventions of Fra Bartolomeo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Andrea del Sarto without renouncing a very Florentine narrative clarity.
