Giacomo Cavedone was born in Sassuolo in 1577 and died in Bologna in 1660. Entering the Accademia degli Incamminati at a very young age, he became one of Ludovico Carracci's most noted disciples. A stay in Venice gave him a taste for color and charcoal drawing close to the Bassano. Around 1610, he joined Guido Reni in Rome for the frescoes of the Quirinal Palace.
