Jacopo dal Ponte, called Jacopo Bassano after his hometown of Bassano del Grappa, was born around 1510 into a family of painters. Trained by his father Francesco then in Venice with Bonifazio Veronese, he returned to direct the family workshop. His art combines Venetian color, Dürer's Nordic engravings and a very personal interest in rural life.
