Leandro dal Ponte, known as Leandro Bassano, was born in Bassano del Grappa in 1557 and died in Venice in 1622. Son of Jacopo and brother of Francesco, he worked for a long time in the family workshop, where compositions circulated between parents, assistants, replicas and variants. Installed in Venice in 1588, he enjoyed success above all as a portraitist; his portrait of the doge Marino Grimani earned him ennoblement in 1595.
