At the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, the Leopold Museum presents the collection brought together by Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold: more than 8,300 works and the largest global ensemble by Egon Schiele.

The Leopold Museum comes from the passion of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold, who for five decades brought together a major collection of Austrian art from the second half of the 19th century and Viennese modernity. At a time when Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele still remained contested, the couple methodically acquired paintings, drawings and documents. In 1994, much of this private collection entered the Leopold Museum Private Foundation with the support of the Republic of Austria and the National Bank. The museum opened in 2001 in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. Its more than 8,300 works include Klimt, Schiele, Richard Gerstl, Oskar Kokoschka, Alfred Kubin, Waldmüller and Romako, but also Jugendstil furniture and creations by Wiener Werkstätte. The Schiele core is the most important in the world, with more than two hundred works, including dozens of paintings. The available selection brings together his incisive self-portraits and the Portrait of Wally with several faces by Klimt. Danaé unites myth, sensuality and ornament.
