Moritz Michael Daffinger was born in Vienna in 1790 and died there in 1849. Son of a painter from the Imperial Porcelain Manufacture, he entered as an apprentice in 1801 then studied at the Vienna Academy, where he obtained a first prize in 1804 drawing. Painter of the Manufacture in 1812, he then abandoned porcelain for miniatures and watercolors.
