The Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran brings together in Kamran Diba architecture an exceptional dialogue between Western modernity and Iranian creation.

Inaugurated on October 22, 1977 west of Laleh Park, the museum is designed by Kamran Diba as an encounter between international modernism and Persian architecture. Its concrete volumes, its courtyards and its light shots evoke badguirs, traditional wind towers, while a ramp descends to nine galleries organized around a continuous route. The collection created in the 1970s brings together impressionism, post-impressionism, expressionism, abstraction, surrealism and pop art of Iranian modernity. Monet, Gauguin, Renoir and Pissarro show here the European roots of a collection that extends to Pollock, Rothko, Warhol and Iranian artists. The four selected landscapes and figures favor the transition to modern art: Japanese print, atmospheric vibration, intimacy of the model and colorful construction of the village. The "Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art" selection puts particularly in view of Still Life with Japanese prints - Paul Gauguin and View of Giverny - Claude Monet. His reading favors atmosphere.

In Tehran, the museum makes modernity a passage between two art histories, two architectures and several ways of looking at the 20th century.
