Nicolas Roerich was born in Saint Petersburg in 1874 and died in Naggar, in the Kullu Valley, in 1947. Trained at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts between 1893 and 1898, he became interested very early in archeology, Slavic origins and medieval Russia. Guests from Overseas advances colorful ships on rhythmic water and transforms ancient history into an almost legendary vision. Roerich directed the Drawing School of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts from 1906 to 1916 and also designed sets for the theater and the Ballets Russes.
