Peter Binoit was probably born in Cologne around 1590 and died in Hanau in 1632. His biography remains poorly documented, but his work places him among the painters who established still life as an autonomous genre in the Germanic area at the beginning of the 17th century. Active particularly around Frankfurt and Hanau, he observes with remarkable precision fruits, flowers, breads, cheeses, meats, glasses and pieces of goldsmithing.
