The collection brings together Saint Anthony Abbot, father of the hermits, and Saint Anthony of Padua, Franciscan preacher, identified by distinct attributes and stories.

Under the name of Saint Anthony, painting mainly brings together two figures. Antoine Abbé, a hermit from the 3rd and 4th centuries, is associated with the desert, temptations, tau sticks and sometimes pigs. Antoine de Padoue, a 13th century Franciscan, appears younger, dressed in homespun, often near the Child Jesus or holding a lily.
