Born in Gaeta in 1680 and died in 1764, Sebastiano Conca trained in Naples with Francesco Solimena in 1693 and collaborated with him in Montecassino. Installed in Rome in 1706, he studied Michelangelo, Raphael, the Carracci and joined Carlo Maratta's circle. Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni favored his rise. His frescoes of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, created between 1721 and 1724, consecrate a major painter of Roman rococo.
