Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, known as Witkacy, was born in Warsaw in 1885 and died in 1939. Son of the painter, critic and architect Stanisław Witkiewicz, he grew up in Zakopane in an intense intellectual environment and received an artistic education largely organized by his father.
