Rose Alley, Givernyhand painted reproduction

Under a rose bush vault, the central path of the Giverny garden becomes a passage of yellow, green and pink light. The arches can be seen through dense vegetation, while the path leads to the facade of the house almost absorbed by flowers.

Look at the work

The Chemin de Giverny crosses an architecture entirely won over by roses

The clear path starts from the lower edge and narrows towards the center. On each side, green, blue and purple masses form the borders. Above, metal hoops are only suggested between the branches and organize the depth without enclosing the vegetation.

Monet's late touch is broad and mobile. The yellows of the path rise in the foliage, the roses mingle with the purples and the blues cool the shadows. The house at the back serves less as a subject than as a point of light at the end of the alley.

The perspective remains perfectly readable, but it is constructed by the color and density of the keys much more than by the design of the hoops.

Composition, touch and light

What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot

Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.

Analysis of L'Allée des rosiers, Giverny - Claude Monet
01

A perspective carried by the yellow path

The clear opening thins towards the house and catches the eye. Its edges should not be hardened: they constantly mingle with flowers and herbs.

02

Hoops present in fragments

A few green-blue curves are enough to evoke the metal structure. Completing them regularly would transform the abundant garden into a geometric tunnel.

03

A late material with intertwined colors

Monet juxtaposes and superimposes yellows, pinks, greens and purples. Reproduction must keep these passages irregular rather than smoothing the surface into flat decorative areas.

Details and visual documents

Observe the material and the exact version

The additional images show the difficult-to-read passages in the full view and, where it exists, the actual appearance of the work at the museum.

The vault of the rose bushes and the archesCropping brings the curves of the structure and the touches of flowers closer together. The hoops must remain visible intermittently, behind the vegetation.
The yellow path in the middle of the impasto - detail of L'Allée des rosiers, Giverny - Claude Monet
The yellow path in the middle of the impastoIn the lower part, the oblique touches of the path meet the greens, blues and mauves of the borders. This transition maintains the impression of depth.

The museum's reference view measures 3000 × 2655 px. Details of 2200 × 1250 px and 1900 × 1150 px are direct cropping. No files have been enlarged; all three images are real WebPs.

Documented benchmarks

Three pieces of information specific to this work

These facts concern this precise version and are verified from the notice of the institution which keeps it.

Identification01

Inventory 5089 of the Marmottan Monet museum

This unsigned oil on canvas measures 89 × 100 cm. The museum dates it from 1920 -1922 and indicates framed dimensions of 110.2 × 121.7 × 5.3 cm.

Location02

The Grande Allée du Clos Normand in Giverny

Monet transforms the path leading to his house by having hoops installed for climbing roses. The pattern combines the regular perspective of the garden with deliberately abundant vegetation.

Provenance03

The legacy of Michel Monet in 1966

Preserved in the artist's family, the work entered the Marmottan Monet museum through the legacy of his son Michel Monet. It is part of the exceptional collection dedicated to the painter's last decades.

Your reproduction

What the painter must preserve

Fidelity here depends on precise relationships between light, touch, depth and color temperature.

  • The exact work of the Marmottan Monet museum, inventory 5089
  • The almost square ratio of 89 × 100 cm
  • The artificially sharp brimless luminous path
  • The hoops partially hidden by the rose bushes
