Look at the work

Boats at rest transform the beach into a composition of hulls and diagonals

A large dark boat advances from the left foreground, followed by red, green and black hulls arranged in depth. On the right, the massive caloge closes the composition and contrasts its ridged roof with the curves of the boats.

The sea and the sky merge into very light bluish grays. On the beach, pink, mauve, olive green and black give weight to the hulls. Short shadows indicate diffused light rather than clear sunshine.

W824 does not show the sea in action but the temporary architecture of the beach: boats pulled ashore, oblique masts and old hull transformed into shelter.
