The train, the bridge and the sailboat combine industrial speed and river leisure

The bridge arrives from the right edge then descends in perspective to the left. Its cylindrical piers alternate with finer metal structures and open several windows on the other bank. The orange-brown convoy follows the upper line, clearly detached from the sky.

The smoke from the train swells into white and pale blue clouds that extend the real clouds. Under the bridge, the triangular sail receives the same warm light as the piers. On the nearby bank, a few dark figures and a boat pulled to the water's edge give the scale of the work.

At Monet, the bridge does not interrupt nature: its geometry, the smoke of the train and the reflections of the piers become moving forms of modern light.
