Look at the work

A dark boat anchors an almost silvery landscape

The boat is placed slightly to the left of the center, surrounded by lighter boats whose masts rise into the sky. A white sail appears further away. To the left, foliage frames the foreground; the opposite bank remains low and leaves the horizon wide open.

The water takes up the creamy grays and blues of the sky, but the reflections of the masts draw supple and broken lines. The hills and distant constructions are reduced to a few pale values. The signature at the bottom left responds to the dark hull and stabilizes the whole.

The calm of the scene comes less from the absence of movement than from the very tight agreement between the sky, the water and the distant forms.
