A red flow animates the depth of a Giverny field

The meadow develops in long, slightly oblique bands. The poppies concentrate in the middle of the canvas, where their red forms an irregular trajectory. At the bottom, a row of trees gently closes the plain without blocking the light from the sky.

The foreground mixes straw yellow, green and pale pink; the flowery area brings together vermilion red and dark touches; the distance becomes purple blue. Monet thus constructs the distance by color temperature as much as by scale.

In W1255, the poppies are not scattered randomly: their red band connects the planes and leads the eye to the cold trees on the horizon.

Flowers are touches and small masses, not drawn corollas. This simplification retains the feeling of distance and movement.
