The last pink glow before the facade falls into shadow

The framing tightens the facade as in other Cathedrals, but the evening light gradually reduces the readability of the sculptures. The central rose remains a point of balance while the lower portals become denser and colder.

The orange and pink touches focus on the parts that are still lit. Blue, purple and red-brown thicken in the hollows. This slow transition produces less contrast than a temperature shift across the entire stone.

W1326 captures a light that recedes: the reliefs do not disappear suddenly, they gradually change color and density.

The painting belonged to the great Moscow collector Sergei Shchukin. It entered public collections in 1918 before joining the Pushkin Museum.

Monet maintains the same view and uses changes in light to measure time. Here, the residual heat of the day can be read in the face of the cold shadows that rise.

The touch becomes more compact around the portals and arcades. The illuminated reliefs remain more fragmented, which reinforces the sensation of a light leaving the stone.
