Rose Alley, Givernyhand painted reproduction

In this almost square version, the orange path sinks under a tunnel of red, brown, blue and green rose bushes. A small yellow opening in the upper center is enough to give depth to a dense surface, where the garden is rebuilt in layers and visible repeats.

Look at the work

Rose tunnel tightened around bright opening

The axis of the path is central but never symmetrical. Blue and green curves suggest the metal supports, while red masses cover them. The clear, very small opening catches the eye long before you can see the details of the garden.

The bottom mixes orange, red-brown, turquoise and gray-green in more horizontal touches. In the upper part, the gestures become circular and vertical. The visible canvas edges and the covers contribute to the late state of the work and must not be hidden.

The depth is a few meters from the path and a spot of light; all around, Monet lets color take precedence over the architecture of the garden.

Composition, touch and light

What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot

Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.

Analysis of L'Allée des rosiers, Giverny - Claude Monet
01

A clear opening reduced but decisive

The pale yellow in the upper center should remain small. Widening it would transform the dense tunnel into an open landscape and weaken the composition.

02

Blue curves drowned in red

The fragments of hoops pass through the rose bushes without going around them. Their cold blue balances the reds and maintains the structure under the material.

03

An orange path built by occasions

The oranges and browns at the bottom are interrupted by greens and blues. Reproduction should keep these overlays rather than producing a smooth band.

Details and visual documents

Observe the material and the exact version

The additional images show the difficult-to-read passages in the full view and, where it exists, the actual appearance of the work at the museum.

The red, blue and green arch - detail of L'Allée des rosiers, Giverny - Claude Monet
The Red, Blue, and Green ArkThe detail shows that the structure only exists in curved fragments. Reds pass in front of blue, while light yellows open the depth.
The orange path and the impasto - detail of L'Allée des rosiers, Giverny - Claude Monet
The orange path and the impastoThe orange, green and brown layers remain separated in places. Their relief and direction guide the gaze towards the center without a clear outline.

The main view measures 760 × 717 px. Details of 480 × 330 px and 500 × 250 px come directly from inventory 5088. No magnification was applied; all three files are true verified WebPs.

Documented benchmarks

Three pieces of information specific to this work

These facts concern this precise version and are verified from the notice of the institution which keeps it.

Identification01

Inventory 5088 of the Marmottan Monet Museum

This almost square oil on canvas measures 90 × 92 cm. It is dated 1920 -1922 and corresponds to Wildenstein number 1937.

Exact version02

A distinct composition of inventories 5089 and 5090

This sheet concerns the 5088, recognizable by its almost square format, its small central yellow gap and its very narrow orange-brown path.

Collection03

A work transmitted by Michel Monet

Like several late visions of the garden that remained confidential, the painting joined the Marmottan Monet Museum with the legacy of Michel Monet in 1966.

Your reproduction

What the painter must preserve

Fidelity here depends on precise relationships between light, touch, depth and color temperature.

  • The almost square format specific to the 5088 inventory
  • The small yellow gap maintained at its right scale
  • The blue fragments of the hoops under the reds
  • The edges, rework and impasto preserved without invented finishing

Presentation in your interior

A palette designed with the room

The dark, warm palette is suitable for an intimate space: entrance, library or bedroom. A linen, deep brown or gray green wall brings out the reds and yellow opening without hardening the canvas.
