A suggested walk rather than described
The dress hides the legs and the ground is cut very close. The inclination of the bust, the position of the arm and the rise of the grass are enough to make you feel a movement on the slope.

Artwork description
Claude Monet · Giverny · 1886 · W1077
Suzanne Hoschedé climbs a meadow, turning to the left. Seen from a low angle, its clear silhouette stands out in front of a sky crossed by clouds; the green umbrella folds behind his head and the scarf stretches to the left in the wind. Signed and dated Claude Monet 86, this oil on canvas measuring 131 × 88.7 cm is kept in the Musée d'Orsay under the number RF 2621 and corresponds to Wildenstein 1077.

Look at the work
The figure is placed slightly to the left of the center and advances towards the edge of the painting. Its left arm stands out against the sky, while the umbrella forms a green arc behind the face; the very close meadow cuts the feet and reinforces the impression of slope.
The white of the dress is colored pink, lilac and ocher. The blues of the sky circulate in the shadows, the greens of the umbrella respond to the grass and a few red accents near the waist attract the eye towards the center of the body.
In this left-facing version, the arm, scarf and clouds open the composition outwards, while the umbrella gently brings the gaze back to the face.
Composition, touch and light
Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.
The dress hides the legs and the ground is cut very close. The inclination of the bust, the position of the arm and the rise of the grass are enough to make you feel a movement on the slope.
Unlike W1076, the large green disc does not dominate the figure in the same way. It frames the profile and creates a transition between hair, hat and sky.
The contours of the dress, scarf and clouds meet without a rigid line. Light thus seems to circulate through the silhouette.
Reference image
The unique high definition photograph of 7,325 × 10,810 px was reduced to 2,033 × 3,000 px and then encoded as a real WebP, without artificial enlargement.
The profile, outstretched arm and rear position of the umbrella immediately differentiate W1077 from the right-facing version.
They connect the figure to the sky and give volume to the fabric without weighing it down with neutral grays.
Small but very visible, they fix the center of the silhouette and balance the greens of the umbrella and the meadow.
Documented benchmarks
The Musée d'Orsay documents the Essay on an open-air figure facing left, oil on canvas from 1886, 131 × 88.7 cm, inventory RF 2621 and catalog Wildenstein 1077.
Alice Hoschedé's daughter appears as an outdoor figure rather than in an interior portrait: posture, clothing and face are subject to wind and light.
The two large paintings were shown at the Durand-Ruel gallery in 1891. Their similar format and their opposite directions form a dialogue thought out from the beginning.
After the Louvre and the Jeu de Paume, the work was assigned to the Musée d'Orsay in 1986; it bears the inventory number RF 2621.
