A bouquet of grasses rises from the left edge and extends with flexible stems in the center of the pool. Around it, white, yellow and pink water lilies float in blue and purple water. Monet no longer separates the plants, their reflection and the depth: this large canvas from 1914 -1917 transforms the Giverny garden into a continuous field of colorful gestures.

Look at the work

The bouquet of herbs divides the web between a dense plant mass and water crossed by light water lilies

The main tuft rises throughout the left half. Its long dark green, turquoise and lemon yellow leaves curve in several directions. They form a compact mass at the base, then become more airy as they approach the center.

On the right, the water lily leaves are organized into irregular groups. Some are almost white, others bordered with red or brown. The blue of the pool remains visible between them and receives purple touches which give depth without resorting to a horizon.

The table does not only show plants on the water: it circulates the same gestures between foliage, reflection and surface.

A great plant asymmetry

The visual weight is concentrated on the left, while the more spaced water lilies make the right breathe. Reproduction must preserve this balance without artificially refocusing the bouquet.

Light leaves are often highlighted with red, brown or purple. These borders do not draw closed shapes; they make the edge vibrate on contact with blue.

A loose and layered late material

The long gestures of the grass cross the shorter touches of the water. Their difference in direction gives the surface its energy and must remain visible in a hand-painted reproduction.
