On a two-meter square canvas, Monet extends the Giverny basin to the limits of the gaze. A large dark green mass crosses the center, punctuated by a few purple, yellow and white flowers. In the lower part, water lilies and blue reflections mingle with long plant trails; the white edges leave the artist's progressive work visible.

Look at the work

A very dense green tablecloth cuts the pond, while the light flowers appear as rare bursts

The upper register is dominated by a horizontal band of emerald green, turquoise and bluish black. The flowers are small, spaced and constructed by purple, white or yellow accents. Their rarity reinforces the magnitude of the water instead of making it an orderly garden.

Under this band, the keys go down further. The greens mix with the deep blue and purple, then encounter wider leaves in the lower corners. The clear reserves around the perimeter deliberately interrupt the color and remind us that the surface has been worked in successive campaigns.

The pool is no longer a landscape seen from afar: it becomes a field of gestures where water, reflections and plants share the same material.
