An asymmetry constructed by density
Left side breathes, right side thickens. This gradual passage is more important than the position of an isolated leaf and must be respected in reproduction.

Artwork description
Claude Monet · circa 1915 · Neue Pinakothek 14562 · W1796
Blue water occupies the left, while water lily leaves and dark reflections concentrate on the right. Three pink flowers and a white flower punctuate the surface without forming a single center. In this large canvas from around 1915, Monet contrasts an open, almost atmospheric area with dense vegetation crossed by greens, purples and yellows.

Look at the work
The left half retains large blue passages where a few vertical gestures suggest reflections of trees or grasses. An isolated white flower stands out near the top and serves as the first light marker.
On the right, the leaves overlap in several levels. Their gray greens are bordered by purple and mingle with dark vertical touches. Pink flowers appear at different heights and guide the eye in this density.
The composition is based on a transition: the blue space gradually tightens until it becomes an almost continuous plant material.
Composition, touch and light
Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.
Left side breathes, right side thickens. This gradual passage is more important than the position of an isolated leaf and must be respected in reproduction.
The purple and burgundy contours detach the water lilies from the green background without transforming them into graphic shapes. Their intensity varies depending on the light.
Long gestures cross the surface behind the leaves. They give the impression of depth and prevent the pelvis from appearing flat.
Reference image
The single reference photograph measures 3,704 × 2,745 px. It has been converted into a true WebP at its native resolution, without artificial enlargement.
The composition should not be standardized. The left aperture and right accumulation create the tension of the horizontal format.
The palette alternates bright colds and dark earths. Pink flowers and white flowers remain rare accents.
At 151.4 × 201 cm, gestures can remain visible and sometimes overlap. Their rhythm reflects the monumental phase of the Water Lilies.

The official notice indicates that the painting is presented to the public. Its large horizontal format allows you to directly observe the differences in material between water, leaves and reflections.
