A calm sunset crossed by a radical form

The low line of houses and boats stands out against a fiery sky. Large touches of yellow and orange mingle with bluish grays, then extend into the water in discontinuous reflections. The dark hulls give scale to the port without interrupting the luminous expanse.

On the right, the mooring pile and its crossmember enter the frame like a large black structure. Far from being erased, this obstacle balances the smaller ships on the left and prevents the composition from becoming simply panoramic. Monet's signature remains readable in the lower left corner.

The port appears still, but each reflection is an autonomous touch that makes the surface vibrate to the rhythm of the water.
