Look at the work

The calm face organizes the entire vertical format

The child's bust fills almost the entire width. The shoulders form a stable base, while the cap develops a dark mass above the forehead. Blonde hair, rosy cheeks and white collar concentrate light around the face.

The blue-gray jacket is described by broad brush strokes and some black accents on the buttons. The purple bow introduces a delicate color between the collar and the garment. The gray brown background does not represent any specific location and keeps all the attention on Jean.

Monet does not seek a solemn pose: the slight deviation of the gaze and the open touch preserve the immediate presence of the child.
