Orchards in bloom with a view of Arles, F515Reproduction of oil painting on canvas
A white and pink orchard extends behind a green meadow, dominated by a gnarled trunk which leads the eye to the roofs and bell tower of Arles.
Look at the work
A view of Arles structured by a monumental tree
Van Gogh places a large tree in the foreground, offset to the right. Its pink-brown trunk divides into dark branches that cross the sky and frame the bell tower. To the left, smaller fruit trees display their white flowers above a carpet of grass.
The meadow is built by vertical lines and tiny yellow flowers. Behind it, a clear path, a few houses with red roofs and the Arles tower form an intermediate strip. The touch thus changes direction with each shot and produces depth.
Tighter than the large F516 version from Munich, this F515 study gives the trunk of the foreground a central and almost human role.
Composition, touch and color
Three observations specific to this painting
F515 is distinguished by its 50.5 × 65 cm format, its vast green foreground and the large pink tree which cuts off the view of the city.
A diagonal trunk
The tree starts from the bottom right then branches above the center. This curve physically connects the meadow, the orchard and the sky.
Plans by the key
Vertical lines in the grass, curls in the flowers and firm contours in the branches differentiate depths without rigid perspective.
A framed bell tower
The tower placed in the distance appears between the branches. This small architectural landmark confirms the view of Arles while balancing the large trunk.

Your reproduction
What the painter must preserve
The painter must maintain the hierarchy between the dark trunk, the pale flowers, the dense meadow and the small buildings without simplifying the touch.
- The large pink-brown trunk placed on the right
- The dark branches that frame the bell tower
- White and bluish fruit trees
- The little yellow flowers in the meadow
- The red roofs and the tower in the background
