Vue de Giverny, par Claude Monet

Claude Monet · Giverny · 1886 · W1074

View of Giverny W1074hand painted reproduction

A green hill descends towards the red houses of Giverny, while two pink millstones occupy the foreground field. The paths, embankments and plots are suggested by bands of color rather than a continuous drawing. Painted in 1886, this 65 × 81 cm oil on canvas is kept at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art under number 2685 and corresponds to Wildenstein 1074.

Look at the work

Pink millstones in front of the green slope of Giverny

The clear field in the foreground is crossed by touches of yellow and green. Two conical millstones, slightly off-center, mark the depth before a line of houses with red roofs. The hill then closes the space with a long diagonal.

Emerald green, yellow, turquoise and blue build the meadows. The millstones combine pink, lilac and orange, while the facades and roofs concentrate brighter reds. The gray-blue sky calms this very bright palette.

The view is read in stages of color: the field, the millstones, the village and the hill follow one another without losing the sensation of a single light.

Composition, touch and light

What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot

Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.

01

Two grinding wheels as pivots in the foreground

Their size and warm color give the scale of the field. They guide the gaze towards the houses without closing the depth.

02

A hill organized by oblique bands

Cultivated areas are not detailed plant by plant. Green and yellow diagonals are enough to make the slope and fragmentation of the land.

03

The village condensed into red accents

A few colorful roofs and walls form a sharp line between the field and the hill. Their smallness keeps Giverny at bay.

Reference image

Read this specific version

A single exact image of W1074 is used in the sheet and as the sole media for the product. The real WebP measures 1,320 × 1,044 px and retains the native definition of the documented image.

Composition01

Keep the two pink millstones in the foreground

Their position and warm contrast organize the entire depth of W1074.

Color02

Preserve the diagonals of the hill

They must remain visible in the greens without transforming into regular contours.

Matter03

Keep red roofs small scale

These accents identify the village and balance the millstones without competing with the landscape.

Documented benchmarks

Three pieces of information specific to this work

The W1074 documentation identifies View of Giverny as an oil on canvas from 1886, 65 × 81 cm, kept at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran under number 2685.

Giverny01

Monet has lived in the village since 1883

Before water lilies became his iconic motif, he explored the hills, fields, millstones and houses surrounding his property.

Version02

The Wildenstein 1074 reference

The number distinguishes this view with two pink millstones from the numerous Giverny campaigns carried out in 1885 and 1886 in similar formats.

Collection03

A work from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran

The painting belongs to the international collection established for the museum in the 1970s. Its documented image allows the version, its colors and its proportions to be precisely identified.
