Vernon, sun W1386hand painted reproduction
Vernon unfolds under a clear light, but the sun produces no dry outline. The collegiate church, the houses, the trees and the hillside come together in bluish greens, mauves and light pinks. The Seine doubles this landscape in long horizontal vibrations which occupy the entire foreground.

Look at the work
Vernon under the sun, with the collegiate church and the hillside united by their reflection in the Seine
The tower of the Notre-Dame collegiate church rises to the left of the center, above an almost continuous bank. The trees and houses lead towards a hillside which rises gently to the right. The water occupies almost the lower half and takes up the silhouette, expanding it towards the viewer.
Warm tones are concentrated on roofs, walls and some passages of reflection. Greens dominate the bank while blues and purples cool the river. Monet avoids harsh contrasts: the solar sensation comes from the juxtaposition of light colors rather than bright white.
W1386 combines clarity and softness: the sun reveals Vernon without separating the church, the trees and their moving image in the water.
Composition, touch and light
What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot
Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.
01
A view taken from the other bank
Monet places the viewer facing Vernon, on the other side of the Seine. This distance brings together the collegiate church, the houses and the relief in a single panoramic strip. Reproduction must preserve the breathing of the river and not artificially raise the horizon.
02
Light opposite to foggy versions
In the 1894 series, Monet observes the city under very different conditions. Here, the atmosphere is clear and the colors more assertive than in The Church of Vernon, fog. However, the architecture remains flexible, because it is built by the touch and not by a hard design.
03
The reflection as a transformed extension
The bank does not repeat itself identically in the water. Vertical shapes fragment into horizontal bands of blue, green, purple and pink. It is this transformation that creates the vibration of the foreground and the unity of the composition.
Reference image
Read this specific version
The single reference image measures 768 × 535 px. It remains at its native definition and has been converted to a real WebP, without artificial enlargement or added border.
Composition01
A continuous bank line around the tower
The collegiate church forms the main accent, but the masses of trees partially absorb it. The right hillside balances this vertical and gently closes the panorama.
Color02
Emerald green, blue, mauve and salmon pink
The colors respond to each other between the city and the Seine. Salmon tones give warmth to the buildings, while blues and mauves establish atmospheric depth.
Matter03
Tight touches on the bank, stretched across the river
The brush suggests more detail around the roofs and tower. In the water, the marks lengthen and overlap, producing a steady movement without making the surface uniform.
Documented benchmarks
Three pieces of information specific to this work
These benchmarks concern the Wildenstein 1386 version, formerly inventoried at 22.59 at the Brooklyn Museum and sold at Sotheby's in 2020.
Identification01
W1386, former inv. Brooklyn 22.59
This oil on canvas from 1894 measures 65.7 × 92.7 cm. The Wildenstein catalog records it under number 1386. It is signed and dated "Claude Monet 94" at the bottom right.
Recent origin02
Sotheby's sale in December 2020
Long kept at the Brooklyn Museum under number 22.59, the work was returned to the rights holders of Henry and Hertha Bromberg, then offered during the sale on December 8, 2020. It now belongs to a private collection.
Series03
Vernon observed under several atmospheres
Monet worked in 1894 on several views of the collegiate church and the shore. Each canvas retains a related framing, but modifies the visibility of the church, the density of the reflection and the general temperature according to time and time.
Your reproduction
What the painter must preserve
Fidelity here depends on precise relationships between light, touch, depth and color temperature.
The Wildenstein 1386 version and its old Brooklyn 22.59 identification
The documented format of 65.7 × 92.7 cm
The collegiate church presents but integrated into the trees and houses
Blue, green and pink horizontal reflections preserved without rigid symmetry
Deep green, Seine blue, mauve, salmon pink and light gray create an atmosphere that is both fresh and warm. The reproduction is suitable for a living room, office or dining room with natural textiles, medium wood and a sober setting.
