01 - Short answer

Where to see Van Gogh in 2026 -2027?

Two events dominate the agenda. The first brings together the entire Van Gogh painted collection from the Kroeller-Müller in the Netherlands. The second takes masterpieces rarely loaned around the world to Japan Langlois Bridge.

The best European choice is Van Gogh, All Our Paintings in Otterlo, from September 15, 2026 to January 3, 2027: the 88 paintings Van Gogh from Kroeller-Müller will be shown together for the first time since 1984. In 2027, the most ambitious meeting already confirmed is the second part of the Grand Van Gogh Exhibition, presented successively in Kobe, Fukushima then Tokyo.

Calendar checked at a glance

"Originals" means that real works by Van Gogh are announced. A group exhibition can be excellent, but it should not be confused with a retrospective entirely devoted to the painter.

Exhibitions to see before fall 2026

Four very different proposals are open in July 2026: a major Van Gogh exhibition in Tokyo, an impressionist tour in Japan, a story by merchant Paul Cassirer in Berlin and a collection display in Los Angeles.

Grand Van Gogh Exhibition I

May 29 - August 12, 2026 · Ueno Royal Museum

This first part follows the painter of the Dutch period to Paris and Arles. Around sixty works by Van Gogh and his contemporaries come from the collection of the Kroeller-Müller Museum. The route culminates with Café terrace in the evening, nocturnal without black where the yellow of the Place du Forum responds to the blue of the sky.

This is the exhibition most directly dedicated to Van Gogh still visible during the summer of 2026. The museum announces a daily opening during the period, but the reservation and exact times must be checked on the Tokyo stage website.

Van Gogh and the Impressionists

Osaka July 4 - September 9 · Nagoya September 19 - November 29, 2026

The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne lends seventy paintings from its impressionist and post-impressionist collection during the temporary closure of its building. The ensemble associates Van Gogh with Cézanne, Gauguin, Manet, Monet and Renoir. It is therefore a collective exhibition, valuable for comparing solutions of color and touch, but not a Van Gogh retrospective.

After a first stage now completed in Utsunomiya, the tour is visible in Osaka then will join Nagoya. Lists of works and ticketing constraints may vary depending on the stage.

Cassirer and the breakthrough of Impressionism

May 22 - September 27, 2026 · Alte Nationalgalerie

The exhibition pays tribute to the merchant Paul Cassirer, a decisive actor in the recognition of French impressionism and Van Gogh in the German-speaking world. The official list includes at least two works by the painter: Boulevard de Clichy and one Self-portrait, both dated 1887 and on loan from the Van Gogh Museum.

We come here to understand the circulation of works, the role of the market and the formation of German collections. Van Gogh is not the only subject, but his insertion among Degas, Cézanne, Manet, Monet and Renoir sheds light on the historical construction of his celebrity.

Collecting Impressionism at LACMA

December 21, 2025 - January 3, 2027 · LACMA

This hanging recounts the evolution of taste and gifts that made up the museum's impressionist collection. His interest in Van Gogh lovers lies in Tarascon Stagecoach (1888), the artist's first painting entered the LACMA collections.

This is not a Van Gogh exhibition in the strict sense: it shows how a work from 1888 takes place in a broader institutional history. It is a relevant complement to a visit to the permanent collections of Los Angeles.

Van Gogh, All Our Paintings

September 15, 2026 - January 3, 2027 · Kroeller-Müller Museum

For the first time since 1984, the eighty-eight paintings by Van Gogh belonging to the Kroeller-Müller are brought together. Helene Kroeller-Müller acquired most of this ensemble between 1908 and 1930. The exhibition organizes it around three values which run through the life and research of the painter: faith, hope and love.

Among the works announced are At the door of eternity, The Sower, Potato Eaters, The Arlesienne, Café terrace in the evening, The Asylum Garden in Saint-Rémy, cypresses and the Portrait of Joseph Roulin. This density makes it possible to follow the palette breaks between the Netherlands, Paris, Arles and Saint-Rémy without reducing Van Gogh to three icons.

Good to know: a digital transition at the museum

Before this big meeting, Join Vincent on his terrace remains announced until September 13, 2026. This is a participatory and digital experience linked to Café terrace in the evening, within a museum which preserves the originals; it does not replace visiting the rooms.

What a Wonderful World

November 14, 2026 - March 28, 2027 · Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum

The Musée d'Orsay sends to Tokyo a set of masterpieces dedicated to the transformations of the modern world. Urban nightlife, gas lighting and then electricity are part of the story. Starry Night on the Rhône by Van Gogh is officially reproduced and announced on the exhibition page.

For Van Gogh, the interest is precise: seeing how the yellow reflections of the city and the stars construct a modern night, in the middle of works which place this choice in the technical and social history of the 19th century.

Van Gogh immersive experiences in 2026

Commercial organizers often change extensions city by city. We only give an end date when it appears clearly on the official page.

A 360° projection does not expose the original painting.

These experiences use digitized reproductions, animation, sound, sometimes virtual reality and interactive spaces. They can be spectacular and accessible to families, but they do not allow them to observe the material, the real scale, the aged colors or the touch of a Van Gogh canvas.

08 - Method

Prepare your trip without unpleasant surprises

An exhibition diary is only reliable if it distinguishes the date announced, the date actually bookable and the work actually loaned.

01

Control the location page

Check the day before departure for times, public holidays, technical closures and reservation obligations. For a tour, always use the local stop page.

02

Read the nature of the event

"Van Gogh in the Title" does not guarantee monographic exposure or the presence of originals. Locate the words projection, immersive, collection or masterpieces loaned.

03

Do not book for a single canvas without checking

A loan may be withdrawn for conservation or delayed. Museums sometimes indicate that the list of works may change; keep an alternative in your program.

And in France?

As of the date of this verification, the major official calendars consulted do not show a major temporary Van Gogh retrospective in France for the remainder of 2026 -2027. To see originals without delay, the Musée d'Orsay preserves several masterpieces and the Vincent van Gogh Arles Foundation organizes a permanent dialogue between its heritage and contemporary creation. Always check their official diaries before departure.

Extend the visit to your home

An exhibition helps you choose a work according to its history, format and palette. Find the nocturnes of Arles, bridges, portraits, landscapes and flowers in the collections of hand-painted reproductions.

Official pages checked

This selection favors lending museums, exhibition venues and responsible organizers. Ticketing aggregators are not used to confirm a date alone.

Last editorial check: July 17, 2026. Exhibitions completed, such as Yellow. Beyond Van Gogh's Color at the Van Gogh Museum (February 13 - May 17, 2026), are not among the events still visitable.

10 - FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest Van Gogh exhibition of 2026?

Van Gogh, All Our Paintings at the Kroeller-Müller Museum is the most exceptional event confirmed in Europe. From September 15, 2026 to January 3, 2027, the museum announces the simultaneous presentation of its 88 paintings by Van Gogh, a first since 1984.

Will there be a major Van Gogh exhibition in France in 2027?

As of July 17, 2026, no major temporary Van Gogh retrospective in France appears in the official verified programs for 2027. This situation may change: museums do not all announce their programming with the same advance.

Where to see Le Pont de Langlois in 2027?

The painting is announced in the second part of the Grand Van Gogh Exhibition in Japan: Kobe from February 6 to May 30, Fukushima from June 19 to September 26, then Tokyo from October 9, 2027 to January 30, 2028.

Do immersive exhibitions show original paintings?

No. They project and animate digital reproductions. They may include music, virtual reality and interactive installations, but they do not replace the observation of an original painting in a museum.

Which exhibition shows Terrasse du café in the evening in 2026?

The first part of the Grand Van Gogh Exhibition presents it at the Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo until August 12, 2026. The work belongs to the Kroeller-Müller Museum.

Why don't some experiments have an end date?

Immersive productions often extend their operation according to demand and open the ticket office in periods. When no closing is published by the organizer, it is better to indicate "end not announced" and check the sessions actually available.

How do you know if an exhibition presents originals?

Consult the list of works, lenders and official vocabulary. The words "oil on canvas", collection or museum loan indicate original objects. The terms 360° projection, mapping, VR or digital experience refer to animated reproductions.
