Weaver's House, Yellow House, White House at Night and Auvers Houses give Van Gogh four ways to paint habitat: work, collective project, nocturnal solitude and moving village.

Van Gogh's houses are never simple architectural volumes. In Nuenen, a weaver's house brings together housing and work; dark windows, roof and suggested loom inscribe domestic economy in the facade. In Arles, La Yellow House represents the building where Van Gogh wants to set up a workshop in the South with Paul Gauguin. The light color, the street corner and the blue sky transform a life project into a fragile emblem. The White House, at night, painted at Auvers, opposes illuminated facade, intense sky and star, producing a presence that is both close and inaccessible. The Houses in Auvers are finally deformed under a nervous touch: roofs, walls and gardens seem caught in the movement of land.
