W812 chrysanthemum vasehand painted reproduction

An abundant bouquet of red, pink, yellow and white chrysanthemums springs from a green glass vase placed on an oblique table. This 95.3 × 70 cm oil on canvas was painted in Poissy in November 1882; it is identified as Wildenstein 812 and belongs to a private collection.

Look at the work

The bouquet fills the space and transforms still life into an explosion of touches

The round vase occupies the lower part, slightly offset. Above, the flowers extend to the edges without forming a regular outline; a few tall stems detach their heads against the blue-green background.

The purplish-red table, the green vase and the cold background create three complementary zones. The petals are constructed by rapid impasto where white, yellow, pink and vermilion remain visible.

W812 abandons the calm order of traditional still life: the flowers seem perceived in the moment, but their colorful expansion is carefully balanced.

Composition, touch and light

What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot

Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.

01

A bouquet larger than the vase

The floral mass overflows in all directions. The small round volume of the vase serves as an anchor for a deliberately profuse composition.

02

A table placed diagonally

The purplish-red oblique edge creates depth and opposes the verticality of the stems. This inclination prevents still life from becoming frontal.

03

A work painted in Poissy

Christie's dates the painting to November 1882 and links it to letters sent by Monet to Durand-Ruel about a flower painting.

Reference image

Read this specific version

Only one reference image is used. The best public file available is provided in real WebP of 516 × 721 px, without artificial enlargement.

Composition01

Flowers individualized by gesture

Chrysanthemums are not drawn petal by petal. Their orientation, size and colored centers are enough to differentiate each head.

Color02

Red and green in tension

The green vase responds to the red table and orange flowers. These complements must remain intense without losing blue and purple nuances.

Matter03

A particularly thick material

The petals bear the most charged impasto; the bottom and table are more widely brushed, which moves the bouquet forward.

Documented benchmarks

Three pieces of information specific to this work

Christie's documents Vase of chrysanthemums, oil on canvas painted in Poissy in November 1882, 95.3 × 70 cm and Wildenstein 812.

Registration01

Signature on the chassis

The instructions indicate Monet on the frame and a Claude Monet signature stamp on the reverse, material elements specific to this canvas.

Context02

A decisive period for still lifes

Between Vétheuil and Poissy, bouquets became a colorful testing ground and an important commercial source for Monet.

Provenance03

Ralph and Mary Booth Collection

Acquired by the Booths in 1939, the painting remained in the family for approximately seventy years before the Christie's sale in 2010.

Your reproduction

What the painter must preserve

Fidelity here depends on precise relationships between light, touch, depth and color temperature.

  • The Wildenstein 812 version
  • The profuse bouquet on a blue-green background
  • The round green glass vase
  • The purplish-red diagonal of the table

Presentation in your interior

A palette designed with the room

The vertical format and floral palette are suitable for a dining room, entrance or bedroom. A gray blue wall, dark wood and some olive green or terracotta details make the bouquet stand out.
